Barito Renewables Advances Toward 1 Gigawatt of Geothermal Capacity by 2026

Barito Renewables, through its subsidiary Star Energy Geothermal, has recently completed the retrofit project of the Wayang Windu power plant, bringing the total installed
geothermal capacity to 926 MW

Jakarta, 3 March 2025 – PT Barito Renewables Tbk (IDX: BREN) has completed capacity addition at the Wayang Windu Power Plant Units 1 and 2, operated by its subsidiary Star Energy Geothermal. This addition complements a series of capacity enhancements carried out in line with the Company’s established growth plan.

At the time of BREN’s Initial Public Offering in October 2023, its installed geothermal capacity stood at 886 MW. Since then, BREN has undertaken a series of capacity upgrades through retrofitting initiatives and the development of Salak Binary, adding a total of 40 MW and bringing its overall installed geothermal capacity to 926 MW. Throughout 2025, BREN has generated 6,885 GWh of electricity from geothermal sources.

Other geothermal projects currently underway include the new construction of Salak Unit 7 (40 MW), Wayang Windu Unit 3 (30 MW), and an additional 7 MW expansion at Darajat Unit 3, all targeted for completion at the end of this year.

Upon completion of these projects, BREN is expected to operate 1 GW of geothermal capacity and 79 MW of wind power capacity by the end of 2026.

Hendra Soetjipto Tan, President Director of Barito Renewables, stated: “We are in a very strong position to achieve our target of 1 GW of installed geothermal capacity. This marks an important milestone in delivering new and renewable energy for Indonesia. This achievement reflects our dedication and commitment to maintaining operational excellence as one of the largest renewable energy companies in Indonesia.”

Wayang Windu Units 1 and 2 Retrofit Completed in Early 2026

The Wayang Windu retrofit project involved comprehensive upgrades across both generating units. For Unit 1, the scope of work included the replacement of the steam turbine rotor, diaphragm, and associated auxiliary equipment; the replacement of a complete cooling tower set, including fiberglass-reinforced polymer structures and equipment; as well as the replacement of hot well pump impellers, motors, and related accessories.

For Unit 2, the project involved the replacement of the steam turbine rotor, diaphragm, and associated auxiliary equipment; the replacement of cooling tower equipment and internal components; as well as the replacement of hot well pump impellers, motors, and accessories.

The project was executed with strong safety and operational discipline, achieving zero Fatalities, zero Lost Time Injuries (LTI), and zero Total Recordable Injuries (TRI), and recording a total of 713,464 safe working hours throughout the project implementation.

“Our continued expansion reflects our conviction that geothermal and wind energy are fundamental pillars of Indonesia’s clean energy future. This milestone supports national economic growth and contributes meaningfully to Indonesia’s journey toward net-zero emissions by providing reliable baseload electricity supply while reducing carbon intensity in the power sector,” Hendra added.

The Commercial Operation Date (COD) for both units was also achieved ahead of schedule, on average approximately 20 days earlier than each unit’s target date, reflecting strong coordination and disciplined project execution.

Through these projects, Barito Renewables further strengthens its role as a strategic partner of the Government in achieving the national renewable energy mix target of 23% by 2025, while accelerating the development of sustainable geothermal and wind-based energy.
